OOAD = OOA + OOD (Analysis + Design) Analysis is problem space and Design is solution space. 

What is Methodology ?

Process + Notations => Methodology
Process -> A particular course of action intended to achieve a results
Notations -> The activity of representing something by a special system of marks or characters

All OOAD Methodologies had their own notations, to standardize a group came out and gave us UML !
Since UML became a Standard Notation, most SDLC uses UML for Notations.
