OracleApps Visual EAM
Visual eAM - Oracle's EAM(Enterprise asset management) Module Visually enabled ! - PART I It was a pilot project, the idea was to explore and demonstrate what EAM can do visually.With lot of new products and solutions on the space around open source,oracle, java & web - I fell into the same to explore developing a Visual tool for the OracleApps EAM module with Vision instance.
Whats Vision Instance - Oracle ERP Product is called as Oracle E-business
suite, this product with 100% valid demo data for most modules is called
vision instance (this is used mostly by developers, who experiment or by
end user for learning...)
Tasks at hand
- Understand EAM (what, why, how)
- Understand EAM module (Considering Oracle)
- Develop a visula tool (browser based) using a map server (Geospatial Web)
- Studied ka-map, unm map server, geoserver
- We choosed java based geoserver and build our own web client with Dojo + OpenLaszlo
- Developed knowledge on postgis (spatial database), dwg, map files (shape file, vector, raster, hybrid)
- Deveop a temporary table to map gis objects with assets. Mostly EAM assets are defined using flexfield for easy usage. The table will help to relate gis objects with assets.
What about integration ?
Well, Integrating oracle with external system will be difficuilt till yesterday but today we have Oracle SOA Suite to help us !
Earlier we use to deal with mtl utl tables, but now its not the case. We can deal with interface (pl/sql) to communicate with oracle apps !
Using SOA or any integration tools its easy to pull out information (i.e select query) from oracle database and not insert data (i.e we dont have any open interface for inserting to apps). So, what did i do ?
- Equip myself with Web Service, ESB, BPEL, JMS Knowledge / Oracle AQ
- Install SOA Suite with Orale DB (i.e not OracleXE - I had faced problems using Oracle XE)
- After installing i did experimenting with different adapters.
- File / DB / AQ / Apps Adapters Then Get on with the visual tool and design the integration, data transformation, etc.,
- Orchestrate the integration.
Its a breeze to get data from oracle Apps using the SOA tools
