Bangalore Nagarathar Sangam / Sangham

Do you like to know, how bangalore nagarathar sangam (a.k.a karnataka nagarathar sangam) website was developed ?

I Joined the sangam on a Pillayar Nombu occasion. After this day, they organized a picnic, which was excellent !

I met lot of people and was happy about it. In the mean time I heared that the sangham requires online presence (web site). Mr.Valliappan & Mrs.Amutha Suresh was requesting the youth to come forward and contribute towards it, in terms of development.

I spoke with them over the phone, and met them personally to convey that i have the technical skill to develop the intial site. Well, they agreed to this. I was on track, updating them on how things are done. Both helped me by providing the content for the web site. We had been communicating with SM Lakshmanen (Somle), to give us an idea of how the matrimonial section could be developed. And we did it !

The web site graphic/layout was done by Kumar, The domain registration and the hosting charges were provided by Mr.Valliappan & Mrs.Amutha Suresh. Thanks for that.

I Completed the site in 15 days. But there were lot of changes, which i did.

After I left to dubai, The Sangam got one more youth contributor Mr.Nagappan, Now he is the maintainer of the site.

Since i am in dubai, i wish to develop Dubai Sangam web site too :) Hope i get a chance.

UAE / Dubai Nagarathar Sangam is also know as ...

Hi, i appreciate ur skills to develop the website..,
but as a person with social responsibility , do u think that we need such web sites and sangams which promote this caste in this 21st century?
Do u know how many ppl are affected of such caste diversion? dont u think atleast in this younger generation these caste system to be abolished?

Let me inform you – It’s my freewill to express my thoughts on my personal blog. Thanks for your pat (on my skills to develop this website). Let it be 25th Century – Still we will have associations for Tennis, Football, Teachers, Students, Workers – Why is this ?
Its just to enable like minded professionals/persons to associate. When I landed in Dubai/Bangalore – I knew only my colleagues, who could generously help me to an EXTENT only. My association with these sangams – gave me a platform by which I can leverage my needs (help obtained) effectively.
I see that you see only the negative side of the coin and me positive. From my childhood I have never been associated (nor want to) with any problems of caste. People who understand 50% would always create problems according to my view. If a person understood 100% of the caste system – may be he will accept it.
According to the income group even today in US/UK they have divisions – this is in par and comparable with traditional caste system in india. People understand it differently and react it likewise – for which they need to take responsibility.
May be if we call traditional “caste system” as modern “taste system” – the noise would come down.
Saying that the new system is modern, open, blah blah blah…. (some journalism will do…)
I believe the sangams that we have in this 21st century need not promote caste as such but be used as a platform for association.
Please dont mix religion with caste system – that is another story TBD (to be discussed), I understood there is no religion in caste system.

Dear Mr. Muthu,
I understand the blogs are for expressing personal opinion and im sorry that i dint mention my name before.
Well you compared this nagarathar sangam with tennis club. I hope you know that the tennis club allows to join who wants to learn tennis and you dont need to be a professional.
When you say that chettiar/your sangam is for “Like minded person” , thats not true. IT’s for the like minded Chettiars and i hope you wont deny that.
BTW im not crazy to join a nagarathar sangam to become a chettiar .. but i just want to express my opinion that these sangams just promotes caste other than doing good.. and at the same time i also agree that its also used by people with good intentions ( like you )
Just ask your elders if they will allow some non-chettiar to join the sangam and i bet they wont.
Will your sangam allow inter caste marriage..?
Nagarathar means business professionals – Chettiars are not the only business professionals in the world…!
” Jathigal illayadi Paapa ” Do u know y bharathi told this to a child and not an adult ? He believed that at one point people will forget these caste as the generations go on…
But with these sangams it just promotes caste other than doing good.
You can even argue that even our indian goverment is promoting this but thats a different story.
All i want to emphasize is that from our part we should do some thing which will remove this caste system and i dont say that we should change it over night , but atleast try to change it.
This is just my comment and i hope u will take it positively and i hope u wont take it personally.
Sincere regards,
Ganesh

Request For all nagarathar sangam !
If any marriage happens between a NKC and non-NKC families, I request
to accept the non-NKC family into nagarathar society when they follow
the below:
1) Non – NKC family should attend the local sangam for 5 years
2) They should participate in all functions, etc.,
3) Any elderly person (with good track-record of following NKC
traditions, etc.,) of that sangam will be the head of all this activities
4) After 5 years they will be no more labled as non-NKC
Hope some thing like this will work. I have cut short my views. But
let me know all your thoughts…!

Dear Ganesh
WHOS SAID YOU “Nagarathar means business professionals” you can’t break olden terms.
Nagarathar means people who live in CITY (nagaram). Some group of people got this sangam (old) name because they where rich or generous in donation.”
Jathigal illayadi Paapa ” For your kind information nagarathar or chettiar is not a Jaathi (caste), just we got multiple titles which we follow still, Chettiar NKC is adopted as caste by government and we are hence forced to use that.
Still in our records we put ourself as dhanavanigar or nagarathar. Elders know better that youth (for example: variyaar swamigal said valga dhanavanigar kulathavar)
Kulathavar means group of peoples or gathering.
Will your sangam allow inter caste marriage..?
There is nothing to with sangam for inter caste marriage; When Indian government can promote caste, why cant a sangam? Sangam is just an autonomous body. They can help physically or financially for marriage of poor.
Nagara kovil, is the authority to allow and register marriages. As you aware that Nagarathars got married with saiva vellalars of tirunelvelly dist, that why we call our sisters and elder ladies as ACHI (not manoramma).
I strongly opposite for inter caste marriage, since this will break our inter kovil system. If we allow inter caste marriage, non of the boys and gals of same temple will be brothers and sisters.
I LIKE TO SAY THAT WE ARE NOT FOLLOWING ANY CASTE, AS GOVT ADOPTED “chettiar. NKC” as caste we are forced to follow as caste.
We don’t have nothing to change, jut we need a modernization.

I had worked in ABUDHBHI for six months on workpermit.I left the company without cancelling my workpermit in 2004.After one year i was coming to chennai from nigeria via Dubai. I had the option of staying outside dubai as Emirates arranged visit visa along with ticket. I was not allowed to go outside because of my workpermit not cancelled. How many years ban will be active. Is there any way to cancel my workpermit.

Dear Muthu,
please know one thing, all who talk of no caste will always think of caste only when it come of his or her marriage or his or her children to get married. caste is there and it will be there. you need not be shy of saying yourself a chettiar NKC, rather you should be proud of it. a very small community with rich heritage and culture.Be proud to be a chettiar. Keep in touch Muthu. you have done a good job in bangalore, I know as aperson involved in the project. SM Lakshmanen ( Devakottai Somle)
